Last year amendments were made to the Work Health and Safety Regulations incorporating psychosocial risks in the workplace. These changes referred to psychological injuries and illness in the workplace. Work Health and Safety (Psychosocial Risks) Amendment Regulations 2023
Managing risks in the workplace is the responsibility of all stakeholders and this includes psychosocial hazards. It is our primary responsibility and duty of care to protect ourselves and others from harm in the workplace.
The PCBU is required to implement protocols to ensure any psychosocial hazards are mitigated in the workplace. An investment in the health and wellbeing of our human resources is imperative to operating efficiently and productively. We need to be proactive and not reactive.
There are resources available through Safe Work Australia to assist in the management of psychosocial risks in the workplace. A good start is the Codes of Practice document.
